Restrictions on entry to Afghanistan

We found no evidence of any official restrictions on entry to Afghanistan based on HIV status.

Both the US Department of State and UNAIDS report that Afghanistan does not have any HIV-related restrictions on entry.

The embassies of Afghanistan in London and Oslo offer a list of supporting documents that should be included with an entry visa application, none of which makes reference to HIV or the general health of the applicant. The visa application form does not contain questions or fields in relation to any health condition or status. 

Restrictions on short-term stay in Afghanistan

We found no evidence of any official restrictions on short-term stay in Afghanistan based on HIV status.

Both the US Department of State and UNAIDS report that Afghanistan does not have any HIV-related restrictions on short-term stay.

Restrictions on long-term stay in Afghanistan

We found no evidence of any official restrictions on long-term stay in Afghanistan based on HIV status.

Treatment access in Afghanistan

We did not find any available information on access to healthcare for people living with HIV in Afghanistan.

The HIV Justice Network's Global HIV Criminalisation Database

There is no known HIV criminalisation in Afghanistan. We are not aware of any HIV-specific criminal laws in force, and there have been no reported prosecutions for alleged HIV ‘exposure’, non-disclosure, and/or transmission under general criminal laws.
